Tasks of the Section

1) The Section operates primarily in the field of variable star astronomy, exoplanets, and related or associated disciplines. In its activities, it follows the principles of scientific work.

2) The tasks of the Section are primarily as follows:

  • defining the observation program according to the requirements of contemporary astrophysics;
  • supporting the observation and research of variable stars and exoplanets;
  • collaborating with astronomical clubs, observatories, and astronomical institutes within the country;
  • developing international relations with institutions and societies of similar focus;

3) To achieve its goals, the Section specifically:

  • organizes observer meetings, practical sessions, and courses, and announces observation campaigns;
  • issues instructions, predictions, charts, and catalogs for observers;
  • ensures the publication of obtained results and develops follow-up publishing activities;
  • organizes the international exchange of observation materials and data;
  • maintains an observation archive;
  • organizes lectures, seminars, and conferences;
  • publishes the journal Perseus;
  • manages its website.
