Membership
The study of variable stars and exoplanets is one of the most significant areas of contemporary astronomy. A vast amount of new information and as-yet unexplored systems offer amateur astronomers a unique opportunity to actively participate in research. High-quality instrumentation, now accessible even to amateurs, and publicly available astronomical survey databases directly encourage the discovery of new insights into exoplanets and interesting stellar systems.
If you are also fascinated by the night sky and wish to contribute to uncovering its secrets, become a member of the Variable Star and Exoplanet Section of the Czech Astronomical Society (hereinafter VSE Section of the CAS) and join the work alongside professionals and other enthusiastic observers. You will become part of a friendly community of people with a shared interest who will help you get involved in the research of exoplanet candidates, pulsating and eclipsing variable stars, and other fascinating areas of space exploration.
Members of the VSE Section (Variable Star and Exoplanet Section) are also granted access to the ROST robotic telescope in Ondřejov and have the opportunity to borrow observational equipment (CCD/CMOS cameras, observation setups).
How to become a member of the VSE Section of the CAS
What the society’s statutes say: Anyone interested in astronomy or related fields can become an individual member of the CAS (Czech Astronomical Society) by submitting an application.
Membership is established upon approval by the Executive Committee based on the submitted application and the payment of membership fees.
For the membership of a person under the age of 15, the consent of a legal guardian and a recommendation from an existing CAS member over the age of 18, who has been a member for at least 2 years, are required.
On the submitted application, please indicate that you are interested in membership in the Variable Star and Exoplanet Section (VSES).

Membership conditions for the VSE Section of the CAS
The total membership fee consists of the CAS fee and the VSE Section fee. The amounts valid for 2025 are:
- Czech Astronomical Society membership fee
- Employed – 700 CZK
- Unemployed/Reduced (student, retiree, parental leave, etc.) – 400 CZK
- Foreign member – 29 EUR
- Section membership fee (VSES)
- Employed – 300 CZK
- Unemployed/Reduced (student, retiree, parental leave, etc.) – 200 CZK
- Foreign member – 14 EUR
