Jindřich Šilhán Award Variable Star Observer of the Year
The Jindřich Šilhán Variable Star Observer of the Year Award was established in 2000. It is awarded annually for outstanding results in the field of variable stars. The award is named after the prominent Czech astronomer, variable star observer, and long-time mentor of new observers, Jindřich Šilhán (October 16, 1944 – April 10, 2000).

Award Statutes
- The “Variable Star Observer of the Year” award is presented annually by the committee of B.R.N.O. – the Variable Star and Exoplanet Section of the CAS (hereinafter only the Section).
- Nominations for the award may be submitted by any member of the Section by the 28th 10. of the respective year to the Section Chairman.
- A non-member of the Section may also be a candidate for this award.
- The award is granted for outstanding observational results, discoveries of new variable stars, development of new methods for variable star research, publication of results from observational or theoretical work in the field of variable stars, or other particularly significant activities in the field of variable star research.
- The awarded candidate receives a diploma and free membership (without payment of membership fees) in the CAS and the Section for the following calendar year. If the awardee is a non-member of the Section or the CAS, they are offered membership under the same preferential conditions.
- The Section Committee announces the award laureate during the Conference on Variable Star Research in November of the given year, or through its member bulletin, Perseus.
- It is possible to be a laureate of this award repeatedly.
- These statutes were approved by the Section Committee at its meeting on the 11th 11. 2000.
